Rennes in 10 Days- Summer Festivals, Places to Visit and 11 Delicious Desserts to try !
4.Old Town Rennes
The best way to experience Old Town is to walk around the town center. It has some traces of the Roman empire with 14th-15th century architecture. Just walking around everyday we came across these building.
You can find many restaurants around this area offering some great French Classic food!
5. Parlement of Brittany
Located in the town center, this is one of the last standing parliament buildings in Brittany and is considered one of the most important heritage buildings of this region. The picture above was taken during the Summer Festival, which is one of the biggest festivals in Rennes. As you can see a stage was put up and a music band performed to entertain the crowd!
The entire City comes together to celebrate this “once every year” festival… So glad we got the opportunity to be part of it !
It is one of the very few places in France where tourism and justice coexist ! There are many restaurants around this area. It is in a very central location and the base to festivals where stages are put up (as in the picture shown). They also have an interesting laser light show at night!
6. L’Epicerie- One of the best restaurants Rennes has to offer!
A gem we stumbled upon !!! Of our 10 days in Rennes, we had the opportunity to explore restaurants…and this stood out to us the most ! The interior as you can see is very laid back and designed to bring a classic Brittany feel. I wish I had more pictures to show you how the walls and pillars were pasted with old Brittany news papers!
They even have some classic books- came across my all time favorite “Asterix and Oblix”, the stories that are based around Brittany!
The food here is unbelievably outstanding, like no other place in Rennes. Had the opportunity to try some classic Tartines and delicious chocolate mousse which I have featured in the next page(s).
Address– 2 Rue des Fossés, 35000 Rennes, France
Tip- This place is pretty crowded the entire week. Arrive early to find a good seating. It’s quite a wait to get served here… but it will be worth it !

Hey Thula,
I love love love these desserts… I’ve never had the last one but I can imagine it already….
About the vanilla… I’ve used Vanilla beans to make my Eggnog for Christmas… and it’s super rich and addictive… mostly because I hate essence… so if you can’t get the bean itself… it’s always really handy to use Real Vanilla EXTRACT. You also get the artificial extract that doesn’t even come close..
As for the dessert….. I waaaaaaannnttt!!!!

When visiting Rennes, the Thabor gardens are a must-see of Brittany s capital. This nature-filled setting also has a little outside terrace to have a drink, a coffee, lunch, enjoy the traditional market menu on a Saturdays or a brunch on Sundays. Its name? La Terrasse, quite simply. With its 300 seats, it is one of the largest in town, facing South and therefore in the full sun all day. The tall trees offer a few pleasantly shaded spots, where you can gaze out on the stunning flower gardens and music pavilion. Located at the northern entrance, just next to the orange grove, La Terrasse is a chic yet relaxed cafe where you can have lunch or a cup of tea in a quiet setting.

Clafoutis is a flan-like dessert cake that is usually made with black cherries. It s from the Limousin region so if you re ever in that neighborhood, give it a try.
